Here's a question for you PTA/PTO types. Lets say you want to bring a special program in for some of your classes? (Say, about medieval history....) Lets also say that what you get with this particular special program is a lot of pre-visit materials (activities, books, that sort of thing) and an in-class visit by a costumed interpreter that lasts 90 minutes and focuses on a single topic (music, art, life, clothing, cooking, etc.). Lets also say that this program can provide written documentation on how bringing the program helps you meet your state's learning objectives. What is a fair price (i.e. a price people would actually pay) for this service?

The Higgins Museum in Worchester, Massachusetts actually does this and I believe that they list their pricing on their web site. Either that or a quick call to them would get the information. Aha, they do have the information. $300.00 plus travel. Cheaper if you get a couple of performances the same day.

The Newark Museum here in NJ charges $250 for two sessions and $400 for four sessions (class periods) and they limit it to 25 students per session. They do a good program and send advance materials that are worth using. The site is decent

Having used their science program in my classroom I can attest to the cost being worth it.
