Apparently the folks who host my wax-tablet.org site have been trying to bill an inactive credit card for my web hosting, and then trying to contact me about it using an old email address, so just as this site goes live my other site is coughing up a lovely message which reads:

error 403: Forbidden!
The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it.
Authorization will not help and the request SHOULD NOT be repeated.

Charming. I've fixed the problem with the ISP (I hope) but who knows how long it will take to get the thing back on on-line. Sigh.

I'm still slowly recovering from 12th night. That awful dress gave me what can only be described as "The Vapors" (How on earth do people wear that stuff all the time?) as well as a large bruise in my left armpit, and the ten-plus hours we spent on the road going to and from the event clearly violated some basic rule of event-going, since were were only on-site for about eight hours. I know all the buzz is about the Knighting(s), but in my book the best part of the day (and the reason we made the trip) was the Troubadour and the Court Baroncy. I strongly covet the cup that Julian made for Lord Jean de Montange. However, I understand that if you hold the cup to your ear you can hear Julian swearing, so I doubt I'll be getting a dinner set in that pattern anytime soon.

Some of you may have heard that I was forced to buy a new car after my old one threw a rod and caught fire at 11 pm on Christmas Eve. Well, having driven The New Car for just over a week now, I'm officially sure its too smart for its own good. I hate that the interior lights come on when I unlock the door, or remove the key from the ignition (perhaps I don't want the whole world to see what I'm doing when I remove the key, ok?). I hate that the doors all lock (with a resounding CLUNK) when I reach the awesome speed of 7 miles per hour. On the other hand, I love being able to control the volume (and other features) of the stereo using keys on the steering wheel. Every car should have that feature. I also love driving around with the heated seats on but the sunroof open when its 25 degrees out. (But maybe that's just me....)

I almost forgot... I'm going to be speaking at the HELIN Library Consortium 2005 Annual Conference tomorrow (that's January 12th) in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Do I even know anyone in Smithfield, Rhode Island?

Anyhow, here are some things I read today:

Brand Autopsy
A weblog about consumerism and consumer culture. In particular The Dark Room Magic of NPR and the very excellent and thought-provoking Incomplete Manifesto for Growth

The Early Days of a Better Nation on the possible connection between the CIA and Modern Art.

Wayne Lela's OP/Ed in the very right-wing and conservative MichNews entitled Lesbian Peer Pressure, which explains how homosexuals are going to take over the world by making it "uncool" to be straight. Or something. File this one under "repressed daydreams of the right wing".

And (oh yeah) Great Vomits of the 20th Century.

If it makes you feel any better I repeated the request, like, a bazillion times.

Just 'cause it said not to.

And yes, as a graduate of MeCA (PSA) over there in Lobstah-land, I can safely say that A) Almost all contemporary art sucks deep, deep doody-poo and B) Pollock really is CIA-sponsored crap and C) The art world hates those artists who value history & tradition, especially if you have to know some in order to understand the work.

I strongly covet just about everything Julian has ever made and I'm lucky enough to have two of his pieces (and one of Carolyn's) in my house. Of course, none of them belong to me...

The Vapors? Bruising? That must have been one hell of an outfit. Personally, I am greatly relieved to hear that you will be completely secure whenever you're driving more than 7 miles an hour. I always have those nightmares of you just flying out of the car at 10 mph because you forgot to lock the door. I'm not really sure where I was going with that...

Btw, it is the perfect description of Jon ([livejournal.com profile] ulf_rulz) to say that he was on the phone with me while trying to see your weblog and said, "It says it's forbidden and that the request should not be repeated. Ha!" Click, click, click, click, click, etc. He has that "push the shiny red button" compulsion, doncha know. Unlike anyone else we know...

One word: Tudor.

It says it's forbidden and that the request should not be repeated. Ha!

That explains everything, suddenly.....
