Dear Eastern Medicine Type People:

I have chronic Kidney stones. I have one really bad (i.e. Emergency room and good drugs) bout per year. The awful ache in my lower right back tells me that I'm very likely to have another bout coming up soon.

On Saturday, one of my best friends in the world is getting married, and I'm supposed to be taking photos. What can I do/take/press to make this ache in my back go away ... or at least postpone the inevitable attack?

Anything I can do at home is fine, and we have a really comprehensive natural foods/herbs store locally. Seeing anyone for treatment is right out, however.

Thanks!

I think there is a Chinese Herbal formula for kidney stones. However it would only be available from a Chinese pharmacy - I don't suppose there are any in your neck of the woods?

Sorry, no. Not in Portland that I've ever heard of.

Hmn, the only other option for chinese herbs would be to see a practitioner who practices herbs as well as acupuncture. :-(

Sorry.

You can also try eating grapes and apples.

"Apple: Apples are useful in kidney stones. In countries where the natural unsweetened cider is a common beverage, cases of stones or calculus are practically absent. The ripe fresh fruit is more valuable.

Watermelon: Watermelon contains the highest concentration of water amongst all fruits. It is also rich in potassium salts. It is one of the safest and best diuretics, which can be used with beneficial results in kidney stones.

Celery: Celery is a valuable food for those who are prone to getting stones in the kidneys or gall bladder. Its regular intake prevents future stone formation.

Grapes: Grapes have an exceptional diuretic value on account of their high contents of water and potassium salt. The value of this fruit in kidney troubles is enhanced by its low albumin and sodium chloride content. It is an excellent cure for kidney stones. "

My handy dandy Jin Shin Jyutsu book doesn't have kidney issues in the problem listing, but there is something called the Kidney Flow which goes through the kidneys. Sounds like a reasonable guess. I've found for these things to work with problems on the fly, you need to hold the postions for a total of about 20 minutes total. If you're feeling really devoted, hold both positions for about 20 minutes but not longer than that. 20 minutes is tops. Jin Shin Jyutsu is kind of like cross breeding accupressure and Reikki.

1. Hold the left little toe with your right hand. Place you rleft hand upon the pubic bone.

I am now very curious - citation? (Not so much about the kidney stones, but Jin Shin Jyutsu in general.)
