Now its a woodlot....
There is a long story behind this photo, but the short form is this:
I grew up on a 90+ acre farm in Maine, (here's an aerial photo from several years ago) which was in a very forested and very undeveloped area. Recently, the two parcels of land that are next to ours were sold -- one was sold as a 40+ acre parcel to people we know, and the other as a 19+ acre parcel to people we don't.
I've had nightmares (real, actual nightmares) that this 19 acre parcel would be turned into a housing development, and if I could have found the money to buy it I would have, but the purchase price for those 19 acres was nearly as much as we paid for our house. Now it seems (crosses fingers) that its only going to be developed into three lots. Construction on the lot nearest our land has started (as you can see here).
It grieves me in ways I can't easily express to see these trees come down. This woodland was my playground during my entire childhood, and these trees were my friends, my playmates, my hiding places, my castles, my imaginary world.

They guard the land hawkishly but they're middle aged and don't appear to have any heirs. I have nightmares about having a neighbor; not being able to forge in the evening or shout at the moon...
