He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. ~Roy L. Smith

The sky here is gray and bleak and its snowing like crazy. This is going to make getting to my mother's harder.

It would be easier to find some holiday spirit around here if Evan would stop saying "oh no, Mamma, Santa not coming. Christmas not coming."

Etsy has been a uniformly positive experience, as has Ebay. Amazon (even Amazon marketplace) not so much.

E has also been getting up between 530 and 6 am every morning and shouting "I'm hungry" at us, demanding that we come downstairs and have breakfast. This is stretching tempers pretty thin around here as we've been going to bed fairly late. I've had to work until 10 pm both the past nights and then trying to get stuff done when I get home has led to some long nights. This morning when E got up he was content to lie in bed with us for a while but eventually he got wiggly and restless and demanded "down" and "breakfast" and Josh really lost his temper with E and made E cry. Now hw feels terrible and E keeps telling me he's "mad at Daddy". (He and I are watching Rudolph right now, a story about penitent fathers and strong-willed sons.)

Also, we're all sick which isn't helping the situation.

So that's the state of things here on Christmas Eve. I'm hoping by the time we have dinner tonight things will improve somewhat, but all in all this isn't going to be the most festive of holidays for us.

Is E possibly a little anxious about Santa coming into his house?

It raises my spirits just to imagine E's delight after he finds out that Santa has actually come :-)

Is he going through a growth spurt? Can you leave him a little "big boy" snack to tide him over--sippy cup with a little juice and a little container of Cheerios that he can open all by himself, just to buy yourselves a little more time to focus your eyes?

We don't really know where the "Santa not coming" bit is coming from. He's seen (and talked with) Santa at the Mall, and we read a lot about Santa (The Night Before Christmas, a Little Golden Book about Santa) and have been trying to stress that Santa comes to bring you presents on Christmas, but he's not having any part of it. When pressed he might say something like "he's too big". My guess is that another child at Daycare has been told "if you're not good then Santa won't come" or some such thing. I'm still not sure if he'll associate toys on Christmas morning with Santa or not. We'll see.

I'm sure its a growth spurt thing (a website I read calls them "sleep regressions") but I don't think he's actually hungry because once we're downstairs he won't eat. He just wants to watch movies. :-)

I'd guess something like that, too, has made him just a little frightened of seeing Santa in his house. Or maybe it is just disbelief/absurdity of the notion.

>once we're downstairs he won't eat
Silly boy, just wants to call the shots and get everyone movin'.

I hope you all feel better soon. Sending a big hug your way.

Won't it be wonderful when he finally has a vocabulary sufficient to explain what on earth is going on in his head?

Try to have a happy one despite all the challenges. Hugs.
