DaddyTypes has a good round-up of the latest news on the whole lead-testing-putting-small-crafters-out-of-business debacle: please take two minutes and read this.
In particular, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has opened a public comment period (details here) on third party testing of component parts and materials vs. third party testing of finished products. Comments can be emailed to Sec102ComponentPartsTesting@cpsc.gov and should use the subject line "Section 102 Mandatory Third-Party Testing of Component Parts". If the CPSC can be convinced to go with testing of materials vs. finished products, this would be a huge step to keeping small crafters in business. Please take five minutes and send your comment to the CPSC.

In other news, it has started snowing here. I'm looking forward to a snowed in weekend, so we can get our decorating done and some presents wrapped and perhaps even bake some cookies and otherwise try to infect ourselves with Holiday Cheer. Cause right now? Right now it doesn't feel much like Christmas at our house, even with the lovely tree and the constant stream of Christmas music. So maybe a little snow and a few cookies can change that. I hope.
Also, I got halfway down the front steps this morning and thought "something feels weird". As I tried to get in the car, I realized what it was -- I totally forgot to put on my brace while I was getting dressed!! So here I am at work, comfortable and brace-less. Everything would be fine except that I need to walk to my car in the snow. Hopefully that will go well.
Oh, and also.... last night around 1215 am two firetrucks and an ambulance pulled up right in front of my house and started frantically doing their firefighter routine. The sirens woke us up. (Just for the record, that's not a good way to wake up.) Turns out that the alarm system in the house across the street had malfunctioned, and had sent out the "there's a fire here" message. But I have to admit to being moderately surprised that it wasn't our house that was on fire. I made Josh get up and walk around everywhere (even the attic) to make sure it wasn't us. Not that there is any reason our house should be on fire, its just been the way things are going lately.
