Well, like so many of you, saw Kingdom of Heaven last night. Not really my historical period, but the movie looked and felt right to me -- I'm sure there were small errors, but overall a fine, wonderful film. Has Ridley Scott ever made a bad movie? (Googles to answer her own question - yes, twice, at least Godzilla (oh dear) and 1492 which I recall as quite a snoozer.)
kr4sh noted last night, and I think its true, that Pennsic is (and I hope you are not offended by this) Pennsic is Jerusalem (or Acre, if you prefer). Its a crossroads town where various races and cultures come together and their customs and fashions mix; its a place where war is always taking place around the edges but the combat is endless, Its a place where trade and combat are of equal importance; and Its a place where men and women from all over the world aspire to go on pilgramage. Again, I hope that doesn't seem blasphemous to any of you, but its a comparison that just feels right to me.
( By the way, here is a bit of the real history behind the film, via The Catholic Encyclopedia, if anyone is interested but too lazy to do the research. )
