anastasiavToday has just been the best freaking day you can possibly imagine.
Josh got up early and went off to an event, leaving E and I to our own devices for the day. And we did - a lot of nothing.
E played. I cleaned some. (the upstairs bathroom, did the dishes, a couple loads of laundry, reorganized under the sink) Sometime in the past few weeks E has mastered the skill of independent imaginative play, so for a lot of the day he was on his own agenda and that was ok. He'd play alone while I cleaned, then (pretty naturally) we'd do something together for a while, then back to independent tasks, then back together again. Lots of giggling.
Around 1pm my mother came down and they played in the sandbox for a while. Then we all went to the supermarket together (more fun than it sounds) then E and my mom walked home from Hannaford while I ran a couple of final errands. Mom left around 6. I made chicken pot pie for supper. It was lovely to have supper at a normal time, with a non-cranky child, rather than eating at 7 or 7:30 as we have been recently and trying to stuff a meal into a wild child.
Then E played some more, I did the dishes, went upstairs, we read, I got E ready for bed, and now we're breaking a firm and longstanding household rule by watching a movie after supper. (E must lay with his head on the pillow; I wouldn't have let him but he's been fabulous all day long and he asked very, very nicely).
I get that if I were a SAHM my every day wouldn't be like this, but its all too easy to imagine that my days would be this blissful if I didn't have to work.
