I can walk. Sorta. I still have the brace and the crutches, but I have authorization to be weight bearing "as much as you are comfortable with". I went up the front steps this evening without needing to go up on my bum. :-)
I also have authorization to drive, although he prudently recommends that I practice a bit in an empty parking lot first, since I haven't used my quadriceps muscle in six weeks.
Max range of motion right now is about 70 degrees, but I expect that to increase as I can now do weight bearing PT.

Date: 2008-12-16 03:17 am (UTC)Also, and you've probably already figured this out a little bit just from the little bit of motion you've been allowed - don't let yourself get frustrated if things (like, you know, using your quads) seem really hard. After my knee surgery, the first time they said "Ok, bend your knee!" I absolutely could NOT do it. My brain was saying "GO!" and my leg was going "Huh?" This was weird and a little scary and a lot frustrating. But really your body is an amazing thing and once you start using those muscles again, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly they go "Oh right, this is how we work." It will, obviously, be a long and sometimes annoying process to get back to your new "normal", but it will happen.
