Oh, and one more thing
Jan. 3rd, 2008 10:37 pmOh yes, one more thing ...
... technology is wonderful. This is what I did tonight:
Over Christmas, I recorded on my Tivo two Dr Seuss specials that were playing as part of the ABC Family "25 days of Christmas" lineup. E loves to watch them (especially the Dr Seuss on the Loose one, which has very faithful renderings of The Sneeches, The Zax, and Green Eggs and Ham), but I hate having to keep the remote in-hand to edit out commercials.
We've been using the Tivo Desktop/TivoToGo software for some time to download things from the PC (or Amazon) to the Tivo, but tonight for the first time I played around with things going in the other direction. Specifically, I uploaded Dr Seuss on the Loose to my computer, downloaded a bit of software called VideoReDo TV Suite to my computer, then used the software to convert the file from a .tivo file to a .mpeg file, edited out the commercials, then converted it back to a .tivo file and downloaded it back onto the Tivo. (I could have also burned it to DVD, but that was not the goal in this case.) Now we can watch the 22 minute animated special sans commercials without having to fiddle around with the Tivo in any way except to start the file playing.
Yay for technology!!
