Jan. 20th, 2006 09:19 amDenver Fabrics has failed me. After a looonnng wait, they now tell me that they can only send the black silk in a maximum of 2-yard pieces. I'm going to have them send it, and see, but I'm thinking now that I need to make a different plan for Birka.
Crap. I expected this fabric to be here by now. If I drop $150 on silk you'd think it would take less than two weeks for them to *ship* it. Grrrr.

Medieval Irish warlord boasts three million descendants
"Up to three million men around the world could be descended from a prolific medieval Irish king, according to a new genetic study.
It suggests that the 5th-century warlord known as "Niall of the Nine Hostages" may be the ancestor of about one in 12 Irishmen, say researchers at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Niall established a dynasty of powerful chieftains that dominated the island for six centuries."

Caroline Arcini of Sweden's National Heritage Board analysed 557 skeletons from four major Viking-age Swedish cemeteries and discovered that around 10 per cent of men, but none of the women, bore horizontal grooves across the upper front teeth."
