Christmas Cards
Dec. 17th, 2005 12:30 amHmmmm.
Got a Christmas Card today from some old friends with whom we have been reduced to communicating via impersonal cards once per year, but they were kind to me at a very bad time in my life so they've stayed on the list.
Except the card is puzzling.
It contains, as always, a photo of their two lovely daughters. And it contains, as well, an invitation to their annual Christmas Eve open house. At the house they've lived in for years and years.
But the invite comes from (and the card is signed by) just the Dad, and the two daughters. No mention of the mom anywhere.
We have friends in common. I assume we'd have heard if she'd been in a horrible car crash or something. But they seem to be the one of the least likley couples for a split-up immaginable. On the other hand, two other couples whom I would have put in that same "least likely" class have split this year, so what the heck do I know.
So, anyway, now I'm wondering what happened, and I'm tempted to send the Dad back a short "thinking of you" type note, but I'm wondering if it'd be in bad taste?
Thoughts?
