The worst thing about sleeping for (more or less) two solid days is the pile of stuff you find waiting for you when you come back to work. As a bonus, the two days I slept through were beautiful, sunny, proto-spring days. The only redeeming feature is that today (a day I'm not sleeping through) is also starting off as a beautiful, sunny, proto-spring day. Also, I realized this morning that now when my alarm goes off the sun is out. For weeks and weeks its been pitch black when I get up in the morning. This can only be a good sign.
The rumor is that members of the 133rd Engineer Battalion of the Maine National Guard (including a friend of ours) will be coming through the Bangor airport this weekend on their way back to upstate New York and then ... Home! This news seems somewhat too good to be true, but at this moment I have no reason to disbelieve it.
During my two days 'off' (when I wasn't sleeping) I did come to the conclusion that the reason I don't seem to be getting anything done anymore is that I've forgotten how to be busy. So next week I'm going to fight my way through my to do list and see if I can remember what being busy (as opposed to being overworked) feels like.
( The other thing I did while I wasn't sleeping was read through a galley of David McCullough's upcoming book 1776. )

Have Princeton Scientists invented a machine that can predict the future?
"But, according to a growing band of top scientists, this box has quite extraordinary powers. It is, they claim, the 'eye' of a machine that appears capable of peering into the future and predicting major world events. The machine apparently sensed the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre four hours before they happened - but in the fevered mood of conspiracy theories of the time, the claims were swiftly knocked back by skeptics. But last December, it also appeared to forewarn of the Asian tsunami just before the deep sea earthquake that precipitated the epic tragedy. Now, even the doubters are acknowledging that here is a small box with apparently inexplicable powers."
